Functions Supervised: Enterprise Risk Administration

 

Primary Functions: The Senior Manager of Enterprise Risk is responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring the organization’s risk management framework and applicable programs. This position supervises the Enterprise Risk department and leads organizational risk management initiatives, incorporating risk management into the strategic planning processes of the credit union and promoting a risk aware culture. Responsibilities include overseeing the credit union’s Risk Assessment and  Model Risk Management programs, assessing the credit union’s capital planning and stress testing models, and participating with credit union leadership in the management and oversight of the corporate insurance program.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Responsible for the innovation, governance, and management necessary to identify, evaluate, mitigate, and monitor the range of organizational risks. Continuously monitor and improve the ERM framework and processes to adapt to the evolving risk landscape and organizational needs.
  2. Develop risk management tools, practices, policies, and metrics to help business units and departments understand specific risks and manage those risks according to the established enterprise risk management framework.
  3. Develop and track key risk indicators (KRIs) and other performance metrics to measure the effectiveness of the ERM program.
  4. Work closely with other departments to ensure a coordinated approach to risk management.
  5. Ensure the organization's risk management policies and strategies follow regulatory expectations, rating agency standards, and strategic imperatives of the organization.
  6. Serve and actively participate in various management committees, as assigned.
  7. Lead the technical implementation, use, and continuous improvement of the risk modules for the credit union’s governance, risk and compliance system.
  8. Recruit, lead, and supervise personnel in the Enterprise Risk Department. Provide leadership, coaching, employee training, problem resolution, and day-to-day functional guidance to departmental staff.
  9. Act as the independent second line supporting the development of the enterprise risk appetite framework, capital planning process and model management.
  10. Provide independent assessment and effective challenge in the credit union’s capital planning and stress testing models, economic / stress scenarios, capital adequacy, and specific risk areas such as liquidity, interest rate, credit, reputational, strategic, and transactional, based on the credit union’s risk profile.
  11. Integrate risk management into the strategic planning process, ensuring that risk considerations are embedded in business decisions and initiatives.
  12. Oversee the completion of enterprise risk assessments of specific large-scale expansion and growth opportunities, as well as new and modified products and services.
  13. Lead the creation, development, and execution of the Model Risk Management Program to include the development of a model inventory, performing independent model testing, validation and providing effective challenge throughout the stages of model use.
  14. Assist as needed with the corporate insurance program including policy applications and claims management.
  15. Serve as the primary point of contact for external stakeholders, including regulators, auditors, and industry groups, on matters related to risk management.
  16. Research, develop, and maintain knowledge and skills through completion of continuing education and training pertinent to the position.
  17. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s degree in business, economics, finance, mathematics, statistics, information technology, or related fields expected. MBA, Juris Doctorate (JD), and/or other applicable professional certification preferred.

 

Creditable Experience in Lieu of Education: Not Applicable

 

Experience/Skills: Minimum of ten years of experience working at a senior level in financial services or other highly regulated industry; direct experience with regulatory compliance, enterprise risk management, and second-line challenge functions. Impeccable ethical reputation and strong emotional intelligence. Previous executive-level experience is strongly preferred. Ability to read, draft, analyze and interpret financial reports, legal documents, and professional publications. Deep understanding of the role enterprise risk can play in supporting business and strategic objectives of a large credit union. Proven track record of working well and influencing peers, as well as members of a senior management team. Experience interacting and working successfully with federal regulators. Flexible approach to new projects, requirements, and workplace demands. Possess strong project management, organizational, analytical, presentation and leadership skills. Proven successful leadership of change management initiatives. Familiarity with Agile. Excellent and demonstrable oral and written communication skills. High emotional intelligence, good judgment, and sense of humor. Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite of products.

Compensation

Senior Manager, Enterprise Risk (Category 05)

 

Salary Pay Range: $109,361 - $191,554 annually. Starting base salary will be determined based on candidate experience, qualifications, education, and local or state wage requirements, if applicable and will fall within the range provided above.

 

In accordance with our Salary Administration policy, new hire base salaries generally fall within the minimum to midpoint of the listed range.
