Overview

Reports to: Employee Relations Manager

 

Functions Supervised: None

 

Primary Functions: Oversee and administer all leave requests and accommodations including those arising under the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and state and local leave laws.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Communicates with employees regarding their needs for leave and/or modified work schedules. Ensures that employees are aware of their responsibilities and of any documentation and notice required to qualify for and to take leave.
  2. Handles the FMLA leave administration process from the employee’s initial notice of the need for leave to the return to work. This includes gathering and completing all required paperwork, determining leave eligibility, designating leave as FMLA-qualifying, requesting medical certification as needed, and accounting for intermittent and reduced schedule leave use.
  3. Maintains reasonable communication with employees on leave to facilitate smooth and timely return to work; relays communication between employees and their managers during leave within reason.
  4. Advises managers and employees on the interaction of leave laws with paid time off, workers’ compensation, and short-term and long-term disability benefits.
  5. Oversees the return-to-work process for employees returning from extended FMLA, workers’ compensation, or other leave(s).
  6. Facilitates other leave requests, which may include accommodation requests under the ADA.
  7. Drafts and/or recommends revisions to company leave policies to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
  8. Maintains complete and accurate records of leave and accommodation requests in accordance with specified legal requirements and documentation of best practices.
  9. Preserves confidentiality of employee medical documentation and files.
  10. Maintains knowledge of all applicable leave and accommodation laws including the FMLA, ADA, and state and local laws.
  11. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education:  Bachelor’s degree in human resources preferred.

 

Creditable Experience in Lieu of Education: At least two years of progressive human resources experience including experience with Leave of Absences and FMLA. Completion of specialized certification or training on FMLA / Leave administration a plus.

 

Experience/Skills: Extensive knowledge of the leave requirements and other legal protections afforded by the FMLA, ADA, and other applicable laws. Ability to take initiative and must be comfortable with decision making. Ability to think critically and independently and work under general direction.  Excellent written and verbal communication skills.  Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.  Excellent organization skills and attention to detail. Must be proficient and comfortable with technology and applications such as MS 365.

Compensation

Leave Administrator (Category 08)

 

Salary pay range: $79,989 to $132,798 annually. Starting base salary will be determined based on position, experience, education, and local or state wage requirements, if applicable and will fall within the range provided above.

 

In accordance with our Salary Administration policy, new hire base salaries generally fall within the minimum to midpoint of the listed range.
